What does ‘organic’ mean
anyway?
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), organic
food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable
resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance
environmental quality for future generations. Organic food
is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers
made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering;
or ionizing radiation.
How can
I find Bob’s Red Mill® organic
products in the store?
The USDA has recently put in place a set of national standards
that food labeled ‘organic’ must meet. Organic packaged
products with at least 95 percent organic ingredients can use
the USDA Organic seal (see below). All of Bob’s Red Mill’s
organic products are 100% organic.
Before a
product can be labeled ‘organic,’ a Government-approved
certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown and the company
where it is handled or processed to make sure that production
and handling practices meet USDA organic standards. Bob’s
Red Mill is certified organic by Quality Assurance International
(QAI).
Shoppers
can identify Bob’s Red Mill® organic products
by looking for one or all of the following on the product label: a)
the word ‘organic’ in the product title in green
b) the USDA Organic seal c) the QAI logo or d) a green border
around the entire label.
In addition,
the symbol can be found at www.bobsredmill.com and in our mail
order catalog to guarantee the product offered
is certified organic by QAI.
