Organic Whole Oat Groats

We are always keeping things new and exciting around Bob's Red Mill, so the package you have may vary slightly from the one you see here, but we always promise the same wholesome product.

"Groat" is an old Scottish word from hundreds of years ago that refers to cereal made from whole, hull-less oats. Our Organic Whole Oat Groats take a bit longer to prepare than cut or rolled oats, but the exceptionally hearty flavor and chewy subtlety of this wholesome porridge make it well worth the wait. Oat groats are also an excellent addition to your lunch or dinner menu. Use oat groats in place of rice for a hearty pilaf or in a cold grain salad.

Scores of studies have documented the many health benefits of oats. The FDA says that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol and rich in fruits, vegetables, and grain products like oats that contain of dietary fiber, particularly soluble fiber, may reduce the risk of heart disease. Oats help you feel fuller longer, which helps control your weight. Oats may also help reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, since their soluble fiber helps control blood sugar. Oats are higher in protein and healthy fats, and lower in carbohydrates than most other whole grains. They contain more soluble fiber than any other grain. They also have the best amino acid balance of all the cereal grains.

Start your day the heart-healthy way with a rich bowl of Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Grain Oat Groats. They also make a great side dish for dinner. Try the tasty and filling Oat Groats Pilaf recipe on the back of our package. Use your home mill to grind groats into fresh oat flour.

Best breakfasts!
We have been eating these every morning for over 2 yrs. whenever I suggest something different, my husband asks why?
I enjoy the fact that these are minimally processed and all the good nutrition is available.

Same amount of fiber in whole, steel cut, or rolled oats
Whole oat groats have same amount of fiber, 5 g., as steel cut and rolled. Only difference is need 50 min. to cook but can soak ahead of time. This makes them sprouted and better for you. I don't know why.

Bob's Red Mill Organic Whole Oat Groats
The oat groats are a welcome change from the standard cereals. We cook a pot of them on Saturday and enjoy it for the next few days. You can make it as thick or thin as you like and add fruit, sugar and anything else as you like. It really warms you up on a cold morning. Review by Loves Breakfast / (Posted on 6/4/2013)
We love oat groats! More fiber than their more processed friends means they're better for helping to lower cholesterol. We love to put them in the crockpot at night with a 4:1 water:groat ratio and turn it on low until the am. Breakfast is ready when we wake up and it's creaminess is outstanding. Even the non-oatmeal lover in the family gobbles it up. And you can always refrigerate leftovers for b
