"Groat" is an old Scottish word from hundreds of years ago that refers to cereal made from whole, hull-less oats. Our Organic Whole Oat Groats take a bit longer to prepare than cut or rolled oats, but the exceptionally hearty flavor and chewy subtlety of this wholesome porridge make it well worth the wait.     I "roll my own" each morning in a hand mill. It then takes very little time to cook and makes the most wonderful oatmeal. I prefer Bob's bags to buying large quantities in bulk because of the risk of infestation.

    put them in the Crock Pot and cook them overnight . They are ready for you in the morning. No muss no fuss approx 1/2 cup oats 3 cups water on high for first hour, put on low, go to bed.

    We have been eating these every morning for over 2 yrs. whenever I suggest something different, my husband asks why?
    I enjoy the fact that these are minimally processed and all the good nutrition is available.

    Whole oat groats have same amount of fiber, 5 g., as steel cut and rolled. Only difference is need 50 min. to cook but can soak ahead of time. This makes them sprouted and better for you. I don't know why.

    The oat groats are a welcome change from the standard cereals. We cook a pot of them on Saturday and enjoy it for the next few days. You can make it as thick or thin as you like and add fruit, sugar and anything else as you like. It really warms you up on a cold morning.

    We love oat groats! More fiber than their more processed friends means they're better for helping to lower cholesterol.
