Thank you to everyone for your awesome feedback. We really appreciate it! We’ll try to keep bringing you the content you love, plus try to increase the amount of recipes we share and gluten free information.

2010 is off to a great start here at the mill. We’ve been playing with chia seed and working on two new soup mixes (more info to come). We’ll also be releasing Gluten Free Quick Cooking Oats and Gluten Free Oat Flour in the next couple of months. I’ll be bringing you some fun giveaways and great new recipes as those new items become available.

In the meantime, we’re busy at work creating more content for our website, including some more in depth information about our company and a gluten free resource center.

Here’s a recipe you might enjoy this weekend. We love this soup at my house because it’s hearty and satisfying. We can’t eat dairy at my house, so I always love finding good creamy soups that can be dairy-free without losing anything. If you don’t have barley and oat groats on hand, simply substitute with whole grains that you do have. Barley and oat groats do add to the creaminess of the soup, though.

Mushroom  Soup

This recipe combines whole grains and mushrooms for a creamy, hearty soup.

Creamy Mushrooms & Grain Soup

* 1 cup Whole Hull-less Barley
* 1 cup Whole Oat Groats
* 6 cups Water
* 3 cups Milk (Soy or Cow)
* 1/4 cups Sherry
* 1/4 cups Soy Sauce or Tamari
* 2 tsp Paprika
* 1 Tbsp Parsley Flakes
* 3 cups Mushrooms, sliced
* 1 small Leek, sliced
* Salt & Pepper to taste


Combine oat groats and barley with water and bring to boil. Turn heat down, cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Add soymilk, soy sauce, sherry, spices and vegetables to cooked grains and bring to boil. Turn down heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Serve with your favorite bread and enjoy! Makes 8 servings.
