I don’t know about you, but this has been a hectic month so far. I spent the last five days working in Bend at the USGP of Cyclocross (recap tomorrow) and have been playing catch-up since. I love getting away and serving up hot oatmeal to cold bikers, but the mound of work waiting upon my return is enough to make me never want to leave the office again… but, rest assured, just because we’re busy, doesn’t mean we aren’t giving away more goodies.

I’m going to give away two cookbooks this week. Both of these books are great companions to have in the kitchen, as they are filled with myriad delicious recipes using whole grains. Either of these books would make a great gift for the baker or cook in your life, or horde it all to yourself (we won’t tell).

The recipes run the full gamut from traditional sandwich loaves to pizzas, baguettes and buttery pastries.

Lately, I have been feeling refreshed and energized by a variety of whole grains. They truly make me feel healthy, strong and alive. I would love to learn more ways to prepare them from the “Whole Grains, Every Day, Every Way” Book.

I have the wonderful Artisan Bread book and have used it many times. I have collected other of Lorna Sass’s great cookbooks, but this is one of hers that I do not own. I have worked hard all year to change my diet to be more healthful all around, and Ms. Sass’s book would certainly help me in my quest to continue on that path.

I love baking fresh bread and I have been looking for excuses to buy more Bob’s Red Mill flours! The Artisan Bread book would be the perfect excuse to do both more often! 🙂

I would love the whole grains book! After going gluten free a little more than a year ago, I find that most gluten-free breads pale in comparison to some of the wonderful, yummy grains available. My rice cooker gets lots of love. Can’t believe I made it to age 30 without ever trying quinoa!

Lorna Sass’s Whole Grains Every Day Every Way would DEFINITELY be my pick!!! I would love some inspiration with eating my whole grains because I’ve realized that even though i’ve stocked my pantry with quinoa and wild rice, I have NO recipes whatsoever to teach me how to make ’em!!! This would be the perfect book! I need some education that’s for sure. 🙂

one of my favorite places in the whole city is standing in front of the bulk grain dispensers of my local co-op. So many different shapes, sizes, colors and they are all so elegantly beautiful and so full of delicious potential!
Ms. Sass’s book would undoubtedly provide me with such inspiration, i’m stocking up already!

To be able to master the craft of making artesian breads is one of my goals. It’s hard finding really great bread where I live, and since I’ve become very interested in cooking and baking so much this is another wonderful item to share baking with my kids since they are picking up on this new lifestyle.

Of course, my morning staple is a different recipe each day, featuring Bob’s Extra Thick Oatmeal. Is it good to have it three meals of oatmeal a day? Now adding a slice of fine bread with it… mmmmm!

I’d love the Artisan Breads book–I retired the bread machine and my bread pans are getting a work out as I go back to making our own bread once again. Standard bakery or store bread will never be able to match up to the small batch baking of bread, and I’m always looking to expand my repertoire. As someone with food allergies, baking my own bread allows me to have tasty, “normal” food without risking a reaction too. I’m crossing my fingers here-and then it’s hard to type!

I would find that grains book most useful as we’re having to cut back on all the wheat-y things we love now that my husband has discovered he’s allergic to the stuff. Rice gets kind of boring after a while, you know?
